Open XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is created for document, spreadsheet, presentation by Microsoft Office 2007 as the default file saving format. Based on XML framwork, there is also another popular format called ODF (Open Document Format), it is similar with Microsoft Open XML which includes odt for word document, ods for spreadsheet and odp for presentations.

Step 1. Download IBM Lotus Symphony, install and launch it on your computer. Click "File" at the menu bar, and open the Office 2007 file that you want to convert.

Step 2. After that, choose "Save As…" from the "File" drop-down menu, it will pop up a windows to ask you the file saving format.

This format list will correspond the file you open, if you open a document, it will convert it to .odt file. spreadsheet to ods. file, and presentation to odp file.
