A new file saving format Office Open XML(eXtensible Markup Language) was introduced as the default file saving format, including document, spreadsheet, presentation etc. They are different from the old version Office files, and the old version Office applications can not open it directly. In Excel 2007 there are xlsx, xlsm, xltx, xltm, xlsb and xlam etc. new spreadsheet format, so if you want to use them without Office 2007, you could convert them to PDF format.
