Microsoft Office introduced a brand new file format Open XML, which is setted as the default document, spreadsheet and presentation saving format in Office 2007. In Word 2007, the default document saving format is .docx (Open XML compression). If your computer is only compatible with old version Word, you can not open the new .docx file directly, so a better way for you is to convert docx file to other format such as: doc or PDF document.
